There are many communities that make up the Central Illinois region. The larger cities and towns would include Danville, Champaign, Bloomington, Decatur, Springfield, Moline, Rock Island, and Quincy. Notably I have left out the cities we, at Newcastle Realty, service. These would include Peoria, East Peoria, Pekin, Washington, Morton, Lowpoint, Washburn, Varna, Kewanee, Galesburg, Toulon, Wyoming, Chillicothe, Lacon, Sparland, Bartonville, Mapleton, Canton, Dunlap, Princeville, Princeton, Eureka to name a few.
Agriculture (corn, soybeans, and hogs), manufacturing (Caterpillar, John Deere), and medical (Methodist Hospital, Proctor Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, and the University of Illinois Medical School) make up our largest employers.
Educational opportunities abound. Located in Peoria is Bradley University, noted for its fine school of business not to mention a strong national calibre basketball program. Now with 3 campuses, Illinois Central College is proud of the strong academic record they have attained. Nearby are Illinois State University in Bloomington, University of Illinois in Champaign, Sangamon in Springfield, Knox College in Galesburg, and Western Illinois University in MacComb .
The bluffs overlooking the Illinois River offer beautiful wooded views which turn crimson and yellow during the Fall. Central Illinois for-the-most-part is typical of the prairie region - mostly flat or gently rolling. Small forests consist of oaks, hickory, and maple. Primary lake areas include Lake Wildwood, Oak Run, Lake Springfield, Decatur Lake, Lake Story.
There are many outdoor recreational parks within an easy drive of the Peoria area. To name a few, there is White Pines, Staved Rock, Hennepin Canal, Mississippi Palisades, and Castle Rock. With Chicago, St. Louis, and Indianapolis all within a 4 hour drive theatre, dining, shopping and entainment events are unlimited.
